What is Urinary Incontinence?
Simply put, urinary incontinence is involuntary release of urine. It is usually caused by weak pelvic floor muscles, which help support the pelvic organs and gives you control over bladder functions.
In general, there are three types of urinary incontinence:
- Stress Incontinence: This occurs when pressure is exerted on your bladder (which can be caused by sneezing, laughing, or coughing).
- Urge Incontinence: This occurs from sudden feelings of having to urinate.
- Mixed Incontinence: This is a combination of stress and urge incontinence.
What causes Urinary Incontinence?
Urinary incontinence is often caused by physical changes. The most common of these changes for women are menopause, vaginal deliveries, or aging.
In addition, anything that may affect the strength of your pelvic floor muscles can lead to incontinence.
How does Emsella work?
EMSELLA is a treatment solution that uses electromagnetic energy. During a treatment it delivers thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions.
The treatment itself does not hurt, but you will experience the contractions and may feel some slight tingling sensations.
Over time these contractions help strengthen your pelvic floor muscle.
Treatment Schedule
The EMSELLA treatment is performed over 6 sessions in a 3 week time period (2 sessions per week).
Treatment sessions typically take about 30 minutes and you can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.
