After your FREE consultation, if you decide to move forward with our program you will be given paperwork to complete and we will see you back within 1 week for your 1st Visit. The 1st visit includes a review of your goals and medical history, an EKG, lab work, vital signs, and biometrics are recorded, including a Body Fat Analysis.
The core of our program is 6 months of close follow up and support, which incorporates dietary and exercise assessment, counseling, and surveillance. B12 injections are used every other week, and medications are also used when appropriate.
For the first 1st month of your program, you will have weekly office visits.
For months 2-6 you will have bi-weekly office visits.
If you opt for medication support in addition to the Lifestyle Program, you will have medication consultations with Dr. Barry.
Medications will be obtained through your regular pharmacy and are not included in the cost of the program. They may or may not be covered by your insurance (most are not at this time a covered benefit).
Medications used include Phentermine, Belviq, Contrave, Orlistat, Qysmia, Saxenda, and are meant to be used as short term weight loss boosters, not as long term therapy. Certain qualifications regarding Body Mass Index (BMI), age, and comorbidities are required to use them. The guidelines for use are:
- Age > 18 < 65 years old, and
- BMI > 30, or
- BMI > 27 with 1-2 other problems
After 12 weeks, the need to continue medication will be reassessed and to continue them you need to have lost > 5% of your weight during the preceding 12 week period.
Weight will be taken at each visit, B12 injections will be given every two weeks, and Body Fat Analysis will be done every 3 months.
Exercise & Nutrition
The exercise portion of the counseling will include using a free pedometer we will provide you with, as well as weekly step goals and at home exercises.
Food diaries will be utilized, especially the first month, to help us assess and provide counseling on your diet. There will be an option of using an electronic tracker (like My Fitness Pal) or a written food diary depending on your preference.
The nutrition goals will be largely based on limiting carbohydrate and sugar intake, as well as focusing on quality of calories eaten over quantity.
The office visits will include topics such as reading food labels, meal planning, aerobic activity, women’s health and nutrition, building healthy eating patterns, and eating safe; among others.
At the end of the program, we will recheck your measurements and labs to assess the impact of your healthy lifestyle changes on your blood sugars and cholesterol panel.
We look forward to working closely with you and helping you achieve your weight loss goals!
